Ben is a UK-based sports and portrait photographer. He works regularly in major national and international sporting events such as the Paralympics, Commonwealth Games and European Championships, as well as working with prestigious clients.

Originally photography was a hobby for Oliver but following a mountaineering accident he transferred the passion to photography, especially wildlife and macro.
After four years of developing his photography skills he decided it was time for a career change and became a full-time photographer. Thu 8 Oct 2026 - ZOOM - Birds, Beasts & Dragons presentation by Paul Billingham
Paul’s lifelong passions lie outdoors: mountaineering and birding. Retirement has enabled him to indulge his passion further and to re-live and share his interests through talks.
The first part is about travels amongst the rich and varied wildlife of St Lucia Wetlands and Kruger National Parks. The second half covers his leg-stretching adventures in the dramatic Drakensberg mountains.
This will be very interesting and has the benefit that you can watch in your own home with a cup of tea or similar.

We are hosting the Settle Trophy which is a competition between Doncaster, Wakefield, Pocklington and ourselves. Each club submits 8 prints and 8 PDIs. We came 2nd last year, lets hope for one better this year - please come and support the club.
We are delighted to say our judge for the evening is Gordon Jenkins who is very well know nationally as a leading figure in the PAGB and in recognition of his massive contribution was awarded Hon PAGB.

Thu 3 Dec 2026 - A practical night – textures, still life or maybe night shots.
Tonight we are having an opportunity to create textures and backgrounds, try some still life and maybe some night shots of the outside of Brayton Church, weather permitting. Creating textures to use as backgrounds is a great help if you wish to produce a composite image as purchased backgrounds/textures are not allowed in competitions.
Bring with you items you think might make good textures, still life and not forgetting your camera, flash and possibly a tripod.

We have arranged for some different models, one male model will be a 14th Century archer and partway through change to into a steam punk! The second male model has yet to plan his outfits. There may well be a third model who is a dancer so watch this space.

Thu 21 Jan 2027 - Mersea Challenge Trophy by Erica Oram
We entered this competition last year and came second to Colchester who scored 1107 to our 1078, lets aim for first place this year. The competition is between 12 clubs each of whom enter 6 images, the sixth being used as a tiebreak if necessary.
Each club holds a judging round and shares the results with all the other clubs. Erica Oram CPAGB AFIAP BPE3, who is well known to the club, is our judge this year, last year she judged for Dingwall.

Both Charlotte & Vince are passionate wildlife photographers at home and abroad. Charlotte specialises in African wildlife. Many of the photos you will find here are taken in the Masai Mara, Kenya but has also reignited a passion for UK wildlife over the last few years.
Vince provides workshops and safaris. His safaris focus on fieldcraft first. Patience over luck. Ethics that don't bend for a better frame — no baiting, no distressing an animal for a shot.

Thu 11 Feb 2027 - ZOOM – Peter Merry – Monopoly Project
Peter is a street photographer who also creates documentary, experimental and impressionist projects.The majority of his photographs are presented as triptych or project form rather than as single photographs.
The Monopoly Project was a year long project visiting 40 Monopoly locations around London. His talk covers how the project was conceived, his approach to taking, editing, and sequencing images and the stories that unfolded on the way. This should be a very interesting evening which you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home.

Tony has had an interest in photographing the old building in Selby for some time. After a lot of persuasion, he has had permission to photograph the old joiners shop on Scott Road and will be sharing his images and all he has learnt about the building’s history. Richard and Janet Burden are a husband and wife team who established RJB Photography in 2009. They are drawn to the aesthetic side of photography rather than the representational ‘classic landscape’. Thu 29 Apr 2027 - Albany Exchange
The Albany Exchange is between ourselves and the Albany Photographic Society in Australia. The exchange has been going for a number of years and was originally organised by Alan Robson FRPS who was our club president at the time. This is an annual event with the judge being chosen alternately, this year is Albany’s turn. Each club submits 25 PDIs. We have been successful for the last couple of years. Fingers crossed we win again.
