Everyone is welcome to join in as the sessions are very relaxed and we share knowledge, learn from each other and perhaps try something new.

This month encourages members to look for different subjects. The images can contain one, two or all three elements of the challenge, perhaps a dead round red flower! Please bring your images to share and discuss.

Undertakinbg this challenge should provide the opportunity to:

• Looking for different types of image
• Practice different composition rules
• Breaking composition rules, or
• Producing a composite...

Ben is a UK-based sports and portrait photographer. He works regularly in major national and international sporting events such as the Paralympics, Commonwealth Games and European Championships, as well as working with prestigious clients.

Points Round 1 competition opens - PDIs only

Originally photography was a hobby for Oliver but following a mountaineering accident he transferred the passion to photography, especially wildlife and macro.

 After four years of developing his photography skills he decided it was time for a career change and became a full-time photographer.  In November 2014 he joined a team in Northern Sweden specialising in Aurora photography Lights Over Lapland, fantastic wildlife, pristine arctic landscapes and the macro views of the amazing ice formations. His wildlife photography has done extremely well in the British Wildlife...

Paul’s lifelong passions lie outdoors: mountaineering and birding. Retirement has enabled him to indulge his passion further and to re-live and share his interests through talks.

The first part is about travels amongst the rich and varied wildlife of St Lucia Wetlands and Kruger National Parks. The second half covers his leg-stretching adventures in the dramatic Drakensberg mountains.

 This will be very interesting and has the benefit that you can watch in your own home with a cup of tea or similar.

John is a professional commercial, portrait and beauty photographer based in Wakefield who covers the whole of Yorkshire and beyond. His wealth of experience and talent ensures images of the highest quality and creativity.  We have had the pleasure of seeing John’s work at the club before so we are in for a great evening.

Stephanie will again lead It's a knock-out which was a fun evening last season.

 Please send 3 PDIs to Celia by 29th October. We are trying PDIs to make it easier to see, and less costly to produce. The aim is to display two images at a time slowly reducing as members reject one until we get to the final 3 who will win a prize. 

Panel of 3 competition closes - Prints and PDIs

We are hosting the Settle Trophy which is a competition between Doncaster, Wakefield, Pocklington and ourselves. Each club submits 8 prints and 8 PDIs. We came 2nd last year, lets hope for one better this year - please come and support the club.

We are delighted to say our judge for the evening is Gordon Jenkins who is very well know nationally as a leading figure in the PAGB and in recognition of his massive contribution was awarded Hon PAGB. 

Nigel is a freelance photographer based in East Yorkshire who specialises in a variety of genres including sport, landscape, portrait and music.

You could also bring some images to share and discuss. Undertaking this challenge should provide the opportunity to:

We have arranged for some different models, one male model will be a 14th Century archer and partway through change to into a steam punk! The second male model has yet to plan his outfits. There may well be a third model who is a dancer so watch this space.

Points Round 3 - PDIs only opens 

We entered this competition last year and came second to Colchester who scored 1107 to our 1078, lets aim for first place this year. The competition is between 12 clubs each of whom enter 6 images, the sixth being used as a tiebreak if necessary.

 Each club holds a judging round and shares the results with all the other clubs. Erica Oram CPAGB AFIAP BPE3, who is well known to the club, is our judge this year, last year she judged for Dingwall.

Tony is a member of Halifax Photographic Society and has a keen interest in landscape photography and it history. Good luck everyone. 

Peter is a street photographer who also creates documentary, experimental and impressionist projects.The majority of his photographs are presented as triptych or project form rather than as single photographs.

 The Monopoly Project was a year long project visiting 40 Monopoly locations around London. His talk covers how the project was conceived, his approach to taking, editing, and sequencing images and the stories that unfolded on the way. This should be a very interesting evening which you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home.

Martin is an award-winning landscape photographer based in West Yorkshire. His work is driven by an appreciation for strong composition and the quality of natural light. The British countryside and its diversity is his inspiration and has two decades of experience so this should be an inspirational evening. 

Annual PDI Part 1 closes and Part 2 opens

Everyone is welcome to join us. The trip provides an opportunity to photograph various wildlife, hopefully birds in flight and is an opportunity to learn from each other. As the trip is weather dependant more information will be added nearewr the time.

Tonight is the first of our Annual PID competition being judged by Peter Wells ARPS CPAGB BPE4 EFIAP EPSA who has been to the club several times. Peter’s gallery on the Wakefield Camera Club website contains some beautiful images covering a diverse range of genres.

Richard and Janet Burden are a husband and wife team who established RJB Photography in 2009. They are drawn to the aesthetic side of photography rather than the representational ‘classic landscape’. Their website contains a variety of classic and contemporary landscapes and is well worth a visit - rjbphotographic.co.uk.

Annual Prints Part 2 closes

The Albany Exchange is between ourselves and the Albany Photographic Society in Australia. The exchange has been going for a number of years and was originally organised by Alan Robson FRPS who was our club president at the time.  This is an annual event with the judge being chosen alternately, this year is Albany’s turn. Each club submits 25 PDIs. We have been successful for the last couple of years. Fingers crossed we win again. 

Four of our members will share information on photography projects they are involved in. Names to be added nearer the time.
