Meetings 2022-2023

This meeting will be held in Selby Library.

Is there a difference? Presentation and discussion. Bring your favourite image taken using something you have learned at café forum or taken during one of the sessions. Explain why it is your favourite.  

This is both a social night and for presentation of Awards for the 2022/23 season. Partners are most welcome to attend with members.

The event will take place a Selby Bowling  Club.   The meal will be buffet style and a bar will be open. During the event awards will be presented to those members who have achieved success in the Points Competitions or the Annual Competitions.

Celia is taking names of members who wish to attend.

Meeting in the car park area at 10-00. Please be aware that traveling to and moving around the Wetlands is at your own risk and not covered by our Club insurance. Look forward to seeing you there and hopefully the weather will be kind to us.

In order to facilitate the move to Brayton Community Centre the subject of this meeting has been changed from a critique evening.

It is now intended that the first half of the session will be an Auction of surplus club equipment. Members may wish to include some of their equipment in the sale. If anyone wish to take advantage of this they must let Brian Cartwright know in advance and any if any of your items are sold you will be asked to donate 10% to club funds. Divided into two forty-minute sessions, the presentation will begin with everyday, accessible subjects close to his home in the Scottish Borders, but it will also include a selection of work from his most recent book about the return of otters to the Tweed river system.

The committee has decided to suspend the Panel of Three competition this season and instead hold a beginners' competition.

By giving this notice now it is hoped that beginners will have sufficient time to prepare and choose a few of their photographs to enter.

The Rules for this competition are:

1. A beginner is defined as any member who has not been awarded a first, second, third or highly commended place in any competion in any photograpic club and has no distinction such as CPAGB or LRPS or greater. Each individual must decide for themselves if they deem themselves...

Alistair has literally travelled all over the world which is demonstrated through his wide range of images.

Alistairs life long passion has been Photography, He retired in 2016 and  now prefers to spend time shooting Nature & Wildlife, Travel, Landscape & Sporting Action. He spent a total of 26 yrs. living & working residentialy abroad in 8 different countries.  At one stage in his career he also ran, with a partner for 12 years, a Photographic business in N. Yorkshire that covered Wedding Event, Commercial & Industrial commissions....

Creating and taking still life, macro and focus stacking. Two or three groups. Members attending bring collections of materials, wood planks, fruit, bread, objects d’art, to share and arrange together. (Begin work on your water droplets and splashes).

Please note there is a £3 charge for this meeting

This will be held in the Cafe area of the Church.  Members are invited to bring and share food and take part in the usual array of quizes.

Filters and their effects and uses.  Presentation & discussion. Members bring their own filters and cameras and show how they use them. Bring and share up to three images which have been helped by the use of filters.

Please note there is an extra charge of £3 for this meeting.

Please note this will be a ZOOM Presentation.   I hope you will remember David's first presentation where he showed us some fantastic underwater images amongst which were the breath taking Shark images and my favourite the Frog Fish.

David's presentations are always top quality and anticipated to be one of the best of this season.

THE SETTLE TROPHY 2022

Selby camera club will be the host for this years competition which will be judged at Kings Church on Thursday 10th November 2022.

Pocklington camera club will replace Howden who have withdrawn which will mean that there is still a club from each of the Ridings.

A reminder that the clubs are: - Doncaster CC, Wakefield CC, Selby CC and Pocklington CC.

Once again the competition will be digital images only. 10 Open Monochrome & 10 Open Colour images from each club.

Sue has recently accompanied James Kerwin on a trip to Georgia exploring some of the abandoned buildings coming from the Soviet Era.

Note this competition is digital entry Only.    The competiton is being judged by Steve Womack who who will be giving feedback on the entries 

Following our successful exhibition Selby Abbey and The Camera Craft Presentation by Robert Helliwell in the Library the club will be welcoming 15 new members.

The committee have therefore decided that to welcome the new members and to provide background to the running of the club.  This will also provide a refresher for existing members. This will take place in the coffee area.
