Zoom Lecture Invitation from Bishopthorpe CC - August 12th

Zoom Meeting: Sam Gregory: More Than an Image,12th August, 7.30pm.

Sam Gregory is a landscape and fine art photographer based in Dorset. His work has featured in various publications locally and nationally and been used by multiple organisations including The National Trust. Sam is a tutor for Light and Land and also hosts ‘The Togcast – Photography Podcast’ with Paul Saunders.

Sam’s photography evolved from capturing a memory to the creative possibilities of photography. He believes there are image-making possibilities all around us, in your back garden, local woodland or beach as well as in further flung destinations. It’s a matter of learning to be receptive to these scenes and matching that with an increased connection to the landscape, history and ultimately ourselves. This has led Sam to a minimalist and sometimes abstract style of landscape photography, often focusing on a detail or an element of the scene. The resultant simplified image has an immediate aesthetic appeal and is clearly seen in his book ‘Mesozoic’.

Sam’s talk ‘More than an Image’ will cover how he views image-making as a storytelling process which takes you beyond simply capturing a documentary image to something which resonates at an emotional level. He will discuss the photographic and landscape photography tradition and how his photography has evolved to encompass creative freedom and experimentation.

We are delighted that Sam has generously provided a signed limited luxury edition of ‘Mesozoic’, including a signed print of the winner’s choice from the Mesozoic series, which we will raffle on the evening.

Non-members are very welcome (£5) and camera clubs wishing to enrol ten or more of their members are eligible for a 20% discount.

Please contact Secretary if you would like further information or wish to book a place.
