The History

Selby Photographic Society was formed in 1887 but soon renamed as Selby Camera Club. We’ve been around ever since, changing with the times. There was colour to challenge black and white and digital has usurped film. Members have adapted to changes and helped others understand new technology.

As a club, Selby is a member of the Yorkshire Photographic Union (YPU) which in turn is affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB). Exhibitions are much loved events for photographers. Apart from our own annual exhibition in Selby Abbey our members have been successful in having work accepted for the YPU annual exhibition. Acceptances at International exhibitions and Salons are also achieved and well deserve to be celebrated.

The Members

Any club exists because a group of people have joined together to share their interests. At Selby Camera Club we enjoy a range of overlapping interests within the world of photography, be it portraiture, motor sport, landscape or other genres. Then there is audio visual (AV), projected images, prints (mono or colour) - the list seems never ending. Some members are also members of the Royal Photographic Union (RPS) and work towards their distinctions others aim for PAGB distinctions. We will have a changing 'Members Profile' soon so you can get to know us better.
